The NBA has fined Marcus Smart $5,000 for flopping during the Boston Celtics‘ Game 2 win over the Toronto Raptors, the league announced Wednesday.
The incident took place with 2:46 remaining in the third quarter of Tuesday’s game. During a Raptors fastbreak, Fred VanVleet had possession of the ball and dribbled towards the basket, flanked by Pascal Siakam. Smart did not make a play for the ball, but made minor contact with Siakam before falling to the floor.
The initial ruling on the court was a foul on Siakam, negating VanVleet’s made shot. After Raptors head coach Nick Nurse challenged the play, officials overturned the call, awarding the bucket to VanVleet and a technical free throw to Siakam.
Boston went on to win Game 2 102-99, taking a 2-0 series lead. Game 3 takes place on Thursday.
