The NBA and NBPA announced Monday that the 2021 edition of free agency will open on Aug. 2.

Teams will be able to begin negotiations with players on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. ET and later can sign free agents starting at 12:01 p.m. ET on Aug. 6.

The NBA held its previous free agency period in mid-November with its 2020-21 campaign pushed back and shortened amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

The league's free agency period traditional begins at the end of June with a moratorium period that follows. Of note, the Tokyo Olympics will begin on Friday, July 23, meaning the free agent period will open after the start of the Olympic Games.

The 2021 off-season was expected to have a bevy of stars up for grabs, only to see the lion's share of them -- including the top prize Giannis Antetokounmpo -- re-sign with their respective teams.
