Steve Nash’s coaching career is off to a pretty good start after his Brooklyn Nets easily beat the Golden State Warriors, 125-99, on Tuesday night.
The Victoria native, who was a Hall of Fame point guard for the Suns, Mavericks and Lakers in his playing days, was presented with the game ball by Nets guard Kyrie Irving after the win.
“This is the start of something new today,” Irving said. “I’m grateful to have you as the head of our team, as our coach, and I’d go to war for you any day.”
“It was a good performance, guys played hard,” Nash said after the game. “They deserve this, we’ve got a lot of guys who can play, we’ve got a deep team and they continue to come in and play hard and try to play the right way, so it was an excellent first outing.”
According to Elias Sports, Nash’s 26-point win is the third-largest point differential in a rookie coach’s first win in NBA history. He’ll look to build on Tuesday’s victory on Christmas Day, when the Nets visit the Boston Celtics at 5 p.m. ET / 2 p.m. PT on Sportsnet.
