The Denver Nuggets will be without their breakout player for an extended stretch.
Peyton Watson will be out for at least four weeks due to a right hamstring strain, at which point he'll be re-evaluated, the Nuggets announced on Friday.
The fourth-year wing sustained the injury Wednesday against the New York Knicks.
Watson is averaging 14.9 points, 4.2 rebounds, two assists, 1.2 blocks and one steal over 49 games for Denver this season, 39 of them starts.
The 23-year-old stepped up in particular during the absence of Nikola Jokic, scoring 22.1 points per game, including three 30-point performances.
Watson had averaged only 6.8 points per game over his previous three seasons.
He's now risen to the No. 3 option on the team after all-stars Jokic and Jamal Murray ,in the absence of Aaron Gordon, for a Nuggets team that is third in the Western Conference and aiming to contend for a championship.
