Pacers’ Sampson suspended for headbutt, Spurs’ Mills, Gay fined

Indiana Pacers forward JaKarr Sampson has been suspended one game without pay for headbutting San Antonio Spurs guard Patty Mills, the league announced Wednesday.

Mills was fined $25,000 and Spurs forward Rudy Gay was fined $20,000 for their roles in the on-court altercation.

The incident occurred in the fourth quarter of Monday's game. Shortly after Sampson and Mills were battling for a rebounding position, Mills made contact with the Pacers forward, resulting in Sampson shoving the Spurs guard. The altercation esclated when Sampson aggressively confronted and headbutted Mills.

Gay also shoved Sampson during the altercation.

Sampson received a flagrant-two fourl and an automatic ejection for the incident. Both Mills and Gay received technical fouls.

The Pacers guard will serve his one-game suspension Wednesday when Indiana takes on the Oklahoma City Thunder.
