New Orleans Pelicans executive vice president of basketball operations David Griffin said Thursday that star forward Zion Williamson does not have a fixed timeline to return after undergoing foot surgery this off-season.

After surgeons reviewed his latest scans, Griffin said Williamson was cleared to take the next step but will be re-evaluated in two weeks and miss the start of the season.

The 21-year-old is one of the NBA's biggest rising stars, but has had trouble staying on the court due to a variety of injuries.

Last season, he averaged 27.0 points, 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 assists over 61 games as a sophomore. He played only 24 games in 2021-22.
