Nathan Barrett, younger brother of Toronto Raptors guard RJ Barrett, died on Tuesday, the team and Canada Basketball confirmed in a statement on behalf of the family.
"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the loss of our beloved son and brother, Nathan Tyler Barrett, who passed away on Tuesday, March 12, surrounded by his family, church and friends," the statement read. "Though his time with us was brief, he will live forever in our hearts."
A cause of death was not provided.
RJ and Nathan Barrett's father, Rowan Barrett, is Canada Basketball's general manager.
Barrett is currently on leave from the Raptors and will be unavailable until further notice.
