Crew chief James Capers says a foul by Devin Booker on Jrue Holiday late in Game 4 of the NBA Finals was missed and that Booker should have fouled out of the game as a result.
The incident occurred with 3:38 remaining in the fourth quarter, with the Suns leading by three points and Booker back on the floor after sitting for nearly five minutes with five fouls. As Holiday drove to the net for a lay-up, Booker jumped up and reached around him, making contact with his right side. The ball was knocked loose, but since no foul was called on the floor, Giannis Antetokounmpo was able to lay it up himself for two points.
After the game, Capers told pool reporter Dave McMenamin of ESPN that a foul should have been called.
“During live play, I saw a clean sweep of the ball and thought it was a no call,” Capers said. “However, after seeing the replay, I now realize that I missed Booker’s right arm around the waist of Holiday, and it should have been a defensive foul on the play.”
While the Bucks were able to pull away and win 109-103 thanks to some clutch shooting from Khris Middleton, the non-call meant Booker, who led all scorers with 42 points, was able to stay in the game.
