Report: 76ers' Embiid expected to miss 2-3 weeks with bone bruise

Philadelphia 76ers centre Joel Embiid falls awkwardly on the court after a dunk and hyper-extends his knee. Embiid left the game and is set for an MRI according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid suffered a bone bruise against the Washington Wizards on Friday night, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski.

The Athletic's Shams Charania reports that Embiid is expected to miss two-to-three weeks with the bruise.

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Friday's game when Embiid took a hard fall on a dunk. The 76ers later announced that the 26-year-old would not return to the game.

Wojnarowski reports that Embiid's MRI did not show any structural damage in his left knee and only showed the bone bruise, which is described as "deep."

So far this season, Embiid is averaging 29.9 points, 11.5 rebounds and 3.3 assists on 52.5 per cent shooting. Before leaving the game against the Wizards with his injury, the MVP candidate had 23 points, seven rebounds and three assists in 20 minutes on the floor.
