The Boston Celtics are locking up one of their key reserves for the long haul.
Payton Pritchard signed a two-year extension worth $44.2 million that will see him through the 2028-29 season with a mutual option for the 2029-30 campaign, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Tuesday.
Pritchard wasn't due to become an unrestricted free agent until the summer of 2028.
One of the top sixth men in the NBA, Pritchard was an integral piece of the Celtics' 2024 title run, was named the 2025 Sixth Man of the Year and posted career highs in scoring (17.0), assists (5.2) and rebounds (3.9) last season, getting an opportunity to start 50 games for Boston with the injuries to key players like Jayson Tatum.
The 28-year-old was taken in the first round (26th overall) in the 2020 NBA Draft by Boston after playing four seasons at Oregon.
He still has $15 million owed to him on his current deal, including $7.7 million this season.
