Damon Stoudamire is set to return to the NBA as an assistant coach on Ime Udoka’s staff with the Boston Celtics, according to Stadium‘s Jeff Goodman.
The former Toronto Raptor has spent the past five seasons as head coach at the University of the Pacific, following assistant coaching stints with the University of Memphis, the University of Arizona and the NBA’s Memphis Grizzlies.
Originally drafted seventh overall by the Raptors back in 1995 — the team’s first-ever draft pick — Stoudamire spent parts of three seasons in Toronto before moving on to play the rest of his 13-season career with Portland, Memphis and San Antonio.
He guided the Pacific Tigers to a 71-77 record as head coach over the past half-decade.
The 47-year-old joins a Celtics team coming off a first-round loss to the Brooklyn Nets in 2021, following a stretch that saw them earn three conference finals appearances in four years.
