DeRozan, 31, initially signed his five-year, $137.5-million contract with the Toronto Raptors ahead of the 2016-17 season. He was traded to the Spurs in the summer of 2018 in the blockbuster that sent Kawhi Leonard to Toronto.
A four-time all-star, DeRozan switched to small forward from shooting guard last season and averaged 22.1 points, 5.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds in 68 games last season.
The Compton, Calif., native has had his name pop up in trade rumours recently, with Kevin O’Connor of The Ringer reporting the Los Angeles Lakers were interested in acquiring him. DeRozan addressed those rumours on the All The Smoke podcast last week, saying, “You always want to be wanted.”
“To be wanted by a championship team, to see that, how could you not feel some type of way? Especially me being from L.A., it’s like, damn. My hometown team wants me? They just came off a championship, and they want me? It’s crazy to be able to see that,” he added.
