The Memphis Grizzlies have told pending free agent Dillon Brooks that he will not be brought back under any circumstances, The Athletic's Shams Charania reports.
The Grizzlies told the Canadian during an exit meeting about their intention to part ways following a disappointing end to the season.
During the Grizzlies' first-round series loss against the Los Angeles Lakers, Brooks called LeBron James "old" and "tired" after Game 2, then punched him in the groin area in Game 3. Brooks was also fined $25,000 by the NBA after he chose not to speak to the media after three of the losses in the series.
Brooks struggled in the six-game series loss, shooting just 31.2 per cent from the field.
The native of Mississauga, Ont. was immediately traded to the Grizzlies after the Houston Rockets took Brooks in the second round (45th overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft out of Oregon.
Brooks made an immediate impact, scoring 19 points in his NBA debut.
The Canadian signed a three-year, $35-million extension with the Grizzlies in February 2020.
Brooks has averaged double figures in scoring the past four years. This season, he averaged 14.3 points.
