The Charlotte Hornets and Los Angeles Lakers aren't exactly known as rivals, but maybe that's about to change.
ESPN's Shams Charania reported late Monday the Hornets are considering their options to challenge the Lakers' failed physical of centre Mark Williams after a trade before last week's trade deadline.
The Lakers, in desperate need of size, acquired Williams for Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish, a 2030 pick swap and Los Angeles' 2031 first-round pick.
Upon learning the physical was failed, the Hornets said they were "excited" to welcome Williams back to the team. Knecht and Reddish also returned to the Lakers.
But now, Charania reported, the Hornets "are considering their next steps and weighing avenues to challenge the Lakers' evaluation process or seek alternative resolutions with the league office."
Williams has battled back and foot injuries throughout his three years in the league. He is averaging 15.6 points and 9.6 rebounds this season.
None of the three players have played a game since the trade.
