Charlotte Hornets star guard LaMelo Ball has suffered a right ankle sprain and is likely to miss an extended period of time, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania.
Although Ball avoided a fracture in his ankle this time, the Hornets are expected to take a cautious approach as it's the same one the 22-year-old had surgery on back in March.
Charania also reported that Ball is currently in a walking boot and using crutches.
Ball sustained the sprain in the Hornets' 130-117 loss to the Orlando Magic on Sunday, when Ball came down awkwardly from an attempted layup in the second quarter.
Prior to the injury, Ball was averaging 24.7 points, 5.5 rebounds and 8.2 assists over 15 games this season.
