Utah Jazz guard Mike Conley will miss a minimum of two weeks with a knee injury according to a report from The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The veteran point guard was injured early in the third quarter of the Jazz’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers Saturday evening, when he attempted to go over top of a screen by Blazers big man Jusuf Nurkic.
The 35-year-old fell awkwardly during the play, immediately grabbing at his left leg while on the floor. He ultimately had to be removed from the game.
While there were initial concerns that the injury could be much worse, MRI results quickly revealed the worst case had largely been avoided.
Conley’s injury leaves the Jazz, who sit atop the NBA’s Western conference amidst a surprising 12-6 start, without one of their premier playmakers and most important players. He’s currently averaging 7.9 assists per game, ranking fifth in the league entering Sunday night’s games.
On the season, Conley is averaging 10.2 points per game along with 2.4 rebounds, while shooting 39.2%/38.6%/76.5% in 17 games.
