The Utah Jazz are paying their star guard.
Keyonte George and the Jazz have agreed to a five-year, $157.5-million rookie-scale contract extension, ESPN's Shams Charania reported on Friday.
George, 22, was eligible for up to a maximum of $252 million.
The fourth-year guard took another leap last season, averaging a career-high 23.6 points, 6.1 assists, and 1.1 steals over 57 games. He also set a new best by shooting 37.1 per cent from three-point range on 6.7 attempts per game.
George missed the final 16 games of the season with a right hamstring strain.
After trading three first-round picks for Jaren Jackson Jr. and drafting Darryn Peterson second overall during the off-season, the Jazz appear set to take a step up in the Western Conference this season.
Now they have locked down another key piece of that core for an extended period.
