Fresh off a historic playoff series that saw him go toe-to-toe with Canadian Jamal Murray, Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell is set to cash in on his post-season performance.
The 23-year-old, who managed two 50-point efforts during that seven-game series with Denver, is set to finalize a max extension when free agency opens in October, according to Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes.
Mitchell is eligible to ink a rookie-max extension worth roughly $170 million over five years.
Through the seven-game meeting, Mitchell averaged 36.3 points, five rebounds and 4.9 assists, his 254 total points breaking the record for the most ever amassed in a first-round series in NBA history.
That came after a 2019-20 regular-season campaign in which he averaged 24 points, 4.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists, earning his first all-star appearance.
The Elmsford, N.Y., native has logged three years in Utah since being drafted 13th overall in 2017 by the Nuggets and subsequently acquired by the Jazz.
