MRI results on Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell's injured right ankle reportedly showed no structural damage, according to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.
Mitchell, who suffered a right ankle sprain that forced him to leave Friday's matchup against the Indiana Pacers early, is expected to miss several games before before he's cleared to return, Wojnarowski added.
The injury happened with 8:20 remaining in the third quarter. Mitchell jumped in an effort to deflect an outlet pass being made by Pacers guard Edmond Sumner. Sumner fell to the court while throwing the pass and, after appearing to make an effort to dodge his leg, Mitchell came down awkwardly with his foot underneath Sumner.
Mitchell was in visible pain as he limped to the sidelines and did not seem able to put pressure on the affected foot, requiring assistance to make it to the locker room. Initial post-game X-rays were negative.
When Mitchell exited against the Pacers, he'd scored 22 points in 21 minutes. A two-time all-star, Mitchell had been on fire recently, averaging 36.8 points in his last five games. On the season, he's averaged a career-best 26.5 points and 5.3 assists per game for the Jazz, who have the NBA's best record.
