The Markelle Fultz sweepstakes have finally come to an end more than halfway through the season.
The Sacramento Kings have added some depth at the point guard spot, signing the former first-overall pick as a free agent, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Wednesday.
Sacramento had been left with a hole at their one spot after trading franchise stalwart De'Aaron Fox to the San Antonio Spurs ahead of this year's trade deadline.
The 26-year-old Fultz had been left unsigned this season as he continued to deal with injury concerns relating to past knee problems. He tore his ACL in 2020 and missed nearly 14 months of action as he recovered from the injury.
He spent the 2023-24 season with the Orlando Magic, but only suited up for 43 regular-season games, averaging 7.8 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists over 21.2 minutes per game.
Fultz was selected No. 1 overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in the 2018 NBA Draft but has struggled to live up to his billing, dealing with multiple injury setbacks throughout his seven-year career and inconsistency on the court when he has been able to suit up.
