The New York Knicks are moving up the draft board hours before the NBA Draft begins.
The team announced Wednesday that it was acquiring pick No. 23 from the Utah Jazz in exchange for picks No. 27 and No. 38. The Jazz will also be trading the draft rights to centre Ante Tomic. Tomic was a second-round pick in 2008 and at age 33, is not expected to come to the NBA.
The Knicks also hold pick No. 8 in the draft. The team originally acquired pick No. 27 from the Los Angeles Clippers in a trade involving Marcus Morris.
While we don’t know who the Knicks are targeting with pick No. 23 yet, Sportsnet’s Steven Loung described this draft class as deep with “role players whom everyone will eventually know and want to have on their team for the next 10 years or so.”
