The Orlando Magic are planning to waive Canadian centre Khem Birch, who is then expected to sign with the Toronto Raptors, according to The Athletic's Shams Charania and Josh Robbins.

Birch, 28, would provide the Raptors with another option in the frontcourt, addressing what has been the team's biggest weakness this season.

The Montreal native is averaging a career-best 5.3 points and 5.1 rebounds in 2020-21.

Raptors head coach Nick Nurse is familiar with what Birch brings to the table thanks to the pair's work with the Canadian men's national team at the 2019 FIBA World Cup. Birch raved about Nurse's coaching style, so perhaps the Raptors can unlock another gear in the four-year veteran's game.

Toronto currently sits 11th in the Eastern Conference, two games back of the Chicago Bulls for the final play-in tournament slot.
