Utah Jazz star Donovan Mitchell, Los Angeles Clippers owner Steve Ballmer and longtime head coach Doc Rivers are among those who will serve on the board of the NBA’s Social Justice Coalition, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania.
Back in August, at the urging of its players, the NBA announced it would be forming the coalition, which has been designed to bring together leadership at all levels — governing, coaching, and playing — and which “will be focused on a broad range of issues, including increasing access to voting, promoting civic engagement, and advocating for meaningful police and criminal justice reform.”
The establishment of the coalition was one of the developments to come out of August’s player-led postponement of games while in the Orlando bubble, with players stepping away from the court to make room for meaningful conversations about combatting racism and forming action plans to push for social reform.
