Another day, another call-up from the Toronto Raptors organization.
Forward David Roddy is reportedly signing a two-way deal with the Denver Nuggets, according to multiple reports on Tuesday.
Roddy, a mainstay of the Raptors 905, Toronto's G League affiliate, is the third player from the ball club to be called up this week. He joins Julian Reese (Washington Wizards) and Olivier Sarr (Cleveland Cavaliers).
The Colorado State product has made 34 appearances with the 905 this season, averaging 12.3 points, 5.9 rebounds and 3.6 assists while shooting 39.2 per cent from beyond the arc.
Roddy joined the Raptors organization last summer by way of an Exhibit 10 contract but was waived during training camp with the intention of joining the 905.
His impact had seen an uptick of late while Raptors two-way players — Chucky Hepburn, Alijah Martin and A.J. Lawson — were out of the lineup either due to injury or while spending time with the big club.
Over his last four games, Roddy was averaging 21.3 points 8.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists while hitting 2.3 threes a game on 37.5 per cent shooting. On Tuesday, not long before news of his deal with the Nuggets broke, Roddy dropped 27 points, six assists and two steals with five made triples in a 905 loss against the Rio Grande Valley Vipers.
The former 23rd-overall pick also recently represented the United States in Window 2 of FIBA men's world cup qualifying. In Team USA's win over Mexico, Roddy finished with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including five made threes and was a plus-12.
Roddy has 168 games of NBA experience, split between the Memphis Grizzlies, Atlanta Hawks, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and Philadelphia 76ers. He's averaged 6.2 points, 2.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists in that span.
