There's some moving and shaking going on ahead of the 2026-27 NBA season.
Jordan Hawkins and Micah Peavy, are being traded by the New Orleans Pelicans to the Memphis Grizzlies for AJ Johnson and veteran Taj Gibson, the teams announced on Tuesday.
The teams also swapped future second-round picks.
Hawkins, a lottery pick at 14th overall in 2023 by the Pelicans, will be onto his first new team after three seasons in New Orleans in which he put up eight points, 2.3 rebounds and one assist per game while nailing 34.8 per cent of his three-point attempts.
Peavy, 25, is a 2025 second-round pick who played 65 games in his rookie season for the Pelicans, scoring 4.3 points per contest.
Johnson was drafted 23rd overall in 2024 by the Milwaukee Bucks and will already join his fourth NBA team after stints with the Washington Wizards and Dallas Mavericks.
Over 77 career games, he has registered 3.3 points per game while shooting 24.5 per cent from beyond the arc and 35.7 per cent overall.
Gibson, 41, will join his ninth team in an NBA career that has spanned 1,012 games. Mostly relegated to a bench role these days, the USC product played just 10 games last season, averaging 9.7 minutes per appearance with 3.4 points and 2.7 rebounds.
Because Gibson’s last contract was not fully guaranteed, the Pelicans could cut him to clear close to $3.8 million in space under the NBA salary cap.
Most training camps around the NBA are set to begin Sept. 22.
