The Detroit Pistons are nearing a deal to trade Derrick Rose to the New York Knicks for Dennis Smith Jr. and draft compensation, according to The Athletic’s Shams Charania.
The former MVP averaged 14.2 points, 4.2 and 1.2 steals on 42.9 per cent shooting in 15 games with the Pistons this season, his second in the Motor City.
Smith Jr., the ninth pick in the 2017 draft, has failed cash in on his potential since joining the Knicks in the blockbuster deal that sent Kristaps Porziņģis to the Dallas Mavericks. The 23-year-old put up 3.0 points, 0.7 rebounds and 1.0 assists in three games with New York this year.
