Houston Rockets guard Austin Rivers had decided to opt out of the final year of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent, according to ESPN’s Marc J. Spears.
Rivers, 28, had one year remaining on a two-year, $4.54-million deal he signed with Houston in July 2019.
The NBA veteran of eight years played in 68 regular-season games for the Rockets during the 2019-20 season, averaging 8.8 points and 2.2 rebounds. Rivers chipped in with 4.8 points and 2.2 rebounds per contest in 12 post-season games.
