Phoenix Suns star Chris Paul has sustained an avulsion fracture to his right thumb and will be re-evaluated in six-to-eight weeks, Chris Haynes of Yahoo Sports reported on Sunday.
Paul was injured during Phoenix’s 124-121 win against the Houston Rockets this past Wednesday. The 36-year-old was ejected from the game in the third quarter after two quick technical fouls. Paul was angry after getting his right hand jammed on a pass and argued for the first technical and then bumped into referee J.T. Orr a few seconds later, which appeared to earn the second technical.
Paul, who is a 12-time All-Star and was named to the NBA’s 75th-anniversary team, is averaging 14.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 10.7 assists per game this season.
The Suns sit in first place in the Western Conference with a 48-10 record and have won seven straight games.
Paul was also named the first recipient of the Kobe and Gigi Bryant WNBA Advocacy Award on Sunday for “significant contributions to the advancement of girls’ and women’s basketball, and advocacy for the WNBA,” the league said.
