Devin Booker may not be leaving the desert anytime soon.
The Phoenix Suns are seemingly doing their best to keep the star guard in town as they're reportedly in talks on a two-year, $150 million max contract extension, per NBA insider Chris Haynes on Monday.
Booker has spent the first 10 years of his NBA career in Phoenix after the team drafted him 13th overall in 2015. Since then, he’s totalled 673 games for the franchise while averaging 24.4 points, 4.0 rebounds and 5.2 assists.
And although the four-time all-star just entered his prime at 28 years old, the Suns have been trending in the opposite direction in terms of progression since making an NBA Finals appearance in 2021. Despite winning 64 games the year after, and Booker earning his lone all-NBA first team selection while finishing fourth in MVP voting, the Suns were bounced in the second round.
In the three seasons since, Phoenix has failed to reach at least 50 wins, and big swings for Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal haven't helped, instead costing the team much of its future draft capital.
They traded Durant to the Houston Rockets earlier in June, netting Jalen Green, Dillon Brooks, the 10th overall pick at the 2025 Draft — which was used to select Khaman Maluach — and five second-round picks
Punctuated by the Suns going 36-46 last season and missing the playoffs outright for the first time since their Finals run. Booker did his part, however, averaging 25.6 points, 4.1 rebounds and a career-high 7.1 assists through 75 appearances.
It would behoove Phoenix to lock down the franchise's all-time leader in points (16,452), while they begin a new era after dealing away Durant to the Houston Rockets for Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks. Meanwhile, the Suns have done some work to bolster their woeful frontcourt rotation from a season ago, trading for Mark Williams and drafting Duke's Maluach 10th overall.
