The Phoenix Suns are hiring Jesse Mermuys as their lead assistant coach, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported on Thursday.
Mermuys has been an assistant coach for the Orlando Magic since 2021. He will serve under rookie head coach Jordan Ott, who was hired by the Suns on June 6.
The 40-year-old left his mark in Canada during his time with the Toronto Raptors from 2013-16. He was named the first head coach and assistant general manager of Raptors 905, the team’s G-League affiliate. Mermuys also served as the Raptors’ summer-league head coach from 2014-15.
Phoenix finished 36-46 last season and missed the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
