The Oklahoma City Thunder continue to lock up their core.
The recently crowned NBA champions have agreed to a five-year maximum rookie contract extension with Jalen Williams, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Thursday.
The deal could reach $287 million, according to Charania.
Since winning the title last month, Oklahoma City extended NBA MVP and NBA Finals MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander to a four-year, $285-million extension and reportedly agreed to a five-year contract extension worth nearly $240 million with Chet Holmgren.
Williams appeared in all 23 playoff games to help the Thunder win their first NBA title since moving to Oklahoma from Seattle 17 years ago. He scored a playoff career-high 40 points in a 120-109 win over Indiana in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. Oklahoma City beat the Pacers in seven games.
He averaged career bests of 21.6 points, 5.3 rebounds and 5.1 assists during the regular season and was named to the All-NBA Third Team as well as the NBA All-Defensive Second Team. Williams also was named as a reserve for the 2025 NBA All-Star Game.
Thunder general manager Sam Presti announced after the post-season that Williams will undergo surgery on his right wrist to repair a torn ligament.
Williams wore a wrist brace on his shooting hand at times during the playoffs and had it taped during games. He shot just 30 per cent from three-point range in the playoffs, more than six per cent off his percentage during the regular season.
The Thunder drafted Williams in the first round, 12th overall, out of Santa Clara in 2022.
