One of the best bench bigs in the NBA is sticking around in Minnesota.
The Timberwolves are set to re-sign centre Naz Reid on a five-year, $125 million contract after he declined a $15-million player option for the 2025-26 season, ESPN's Shams Charania reported Friday.
The deal includes a player option for the final year of his contract, Charania added.
He was set to become a free agent this off-season as one of the top centres in a shallow market.
Reid has been a massive contributor off the bench for the T-Wolves, finishing with career highs in points (14.2), rebounds (6.0) and assists (2.3) last season while shooting 46.2 per cent from the field and 37.9 per cent from three-point range.
Reid broke out in the 2023-24 season, shooting a career-high 41.4 per cent from three-point range while scoring 13.5 points en route to being named the NBA's Sixth Man of the Year.
The 25-year-old joined the T-Wolves in 2019 as an undrafted free agent from Louisiana State University.
Signing Reid was a priority for a Timberwolves team also staring down free agency decisions for players like Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Julius Randle.
They were knocked out of the playoffs by the Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference Finals, losing in five games.
