Minnesota Timberwolves star centre Karl-Anthony Towns says he will take shoot-a-round and could play Wednesday against the Los Angeles Clippers if he feels healthy.
Towns tweeted his status update in response to a report from Shams Charania of The Athletic, who tweeted that Towns had been cleared to play. Town has missed the past 13 games while recovering from COVID-19.
“This is news to me!” Towns wrote in response to Charania. “Last time I checked, I was gonna go through shootaround and see how I feel. Underlying conditions and Covid don’t mix well.”
Towns has only appeared in four games this season after dislocating his left wrist in January before his COVID-19 diagnosis. He last played on Jan. 13.
Towns did travel with the Timberwolves on their most recent road trip and practiced with the team during that time.
“He’s really been able to push himself,” head coach Ryan Saunders said of the practice sessions Tuesday. “Our medical group has been able to try to simulate certain stints during a game, the stopping and going, what that might feel like with his lungs.”
