The New Orleans Pelicans are making a lightning-quick upgrade to their backcourt.
Oklahoma guard Jeremiah Fears has been drafted by the Pels seventh overall at the 2025 NBA Draft in Brooklyn on Wednesday night.
Fears had a standout freshman season with the Sooners, averaging a team-high 17.1 points and 4.1 assists while adding 4.1 rebounds.
Set to turn 19 in October, Fears is one of the younger players in this year’s class but processes the game well and has a solid frame for his size. One of the best ball-handlers among all prospects this year, Fears excelled at setting up Oklahoma’s offence in his lone season there.
The Joliet, Ill. native led the Sooners to a 20-14 record in a crowded SEC and a March Madness appearance — their first since 2021. They were eliminated in the first round by UConn.
More to come.
