The San Antonio Spurs will likely start the season with a hole at point guard.
De’Aaron Fox doesn't think he will be ready for the Spurs' opening game of the season against the Dallas Mavericks on Oct. 22, he told reporters on Monday.
Fox is dealing with a right hamstring injury while still recovering from surgery to his left pinkie that ended his 2024-25 season in March.
He reportedly suffered the pinkie injury during training camp in October with the Sacramento Kings and played through it all season.
Fox was traded from the Kings to the Spurs ahead of last season's NBA trade deadline. The Kentucky product appeared in 17 games with the Spurs before his season ended and averaged 19.7 points, 6.8 assists and 4.3 rebounds.
It's another blow to the Spurs' depth at guard to start the season as rookie Dylan Harper's status for opening night is also up in the air after he underwent hand surgery in early September.
