Oklahoma City Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said on Monday that Canadian guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander will miss the remainder of the season.

Gilgeous-Alexander suffered an ankle injury that he has been tending to for the last week, despite making an appearance on March 21. He dropped 31 points and nine assists against the Boston Celtics after sitting out against the Orlando Magic the day before.

The 23-year-old from Hamilton, Ont., has played in 56 games for the Thunder this season averaging 24.5 points, 5.9 assists and five rebounds per game.

After being eliminated from playoff contention as they sit 14th in the Western Conference, the move from the Thunder is reported to be precautionary to avoid any further injury.
