It's been a costly holiday season for Anthony Edwards.
The Minnesota Timberwolves guard was fined $100,000 by the NBA for using profane language during an on-court post-game interview, the league announced Sunday.
Edwards made his comments upon conclusion of the Timberwolves' 113-112 victory over the Houston Rockets on Friday. The two-time All-Star hit a stepback three in the dying seconds to win the game and was clearly happy capping Minnesota's three-game road trip with a victory while avoiding an extra five minutes of play.
"I don't do overtime, so (expletive) it," was Edwards' message following his game-winner.
Joe Dumars, the NBA's executive vice president and head of basketball operations explained the fine amount levied to the 23-year-old was based in part on Edward's history of using profane language during media interviews.
He was most recently fined $75,000 just last week for publicly criticizing officials, while using inappropriate language, following a 113-110 loss to the Golden State Warriors. Prior to that, Edwards was handed a $25,000 fine on Dec. 9 for using profane language during a media interview and received a $35,000 fine on Nov. 17 for making an obscene gesture on the court.
Sunday's fine makes it four in the last two months totalling over $200,000.
Edwards, with much lighter pockets, and the Timberwolves return to action on Sunday in a road tilt against the San Antonio Spurs.
