With training camp around the corner, the Toronto Raptors continue to fine-tune the roster.
The Raptors' latest move is the signing and subsequent waiving of guard Kennedy Chandler, the team announced on Wednesday.
The terms of the deal were not disclosed but given the team waived Chandler within hours of announcing he had been signed, the move can be interpreted as a way to bolster the Raptors 905 roster ahead of the NBA G League season.
Earlier in the week, Toronto signed forwards Dylan Disu and Quincy Guerrier, reportedly to Exhibit 10 contracts per Sportsnet's Blake Murphy, and immediately waived them to keep its final training camp spot open while retaining both players' G League rights.
Chandler, 22, was selected by the Memphis Grizzlies with the 38th pick in the 2022 NBA draft.
He made 36 appearances for the franchise as a rookie in the 2022-23 season. The Tennessee product averaged 2.2 points and 1.6 assists through 7.8 minutes per game during that span.
Chandler spent the 2023-24 season in the NBA G League, making 16 appearances for the Long Island Nets. Chandler averaged 12.9 points, 5.2 assists and 4.3 rebounds with 38 per cent shooting from distance on 3.1 attempts per game.
Meanwhile, it won't be a totally unfamiliar situation for Chandler as he'll be reuniting with former high school teammate Gradey Dick. The Raptors' sophomore and 13th-overall pick in last year's draft played with Chandler at Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas.
