Stephen Curry is promising not to let unfinished contract negotiations become a distraction for the Golden State Warriors when training camp opens next week.
In an interview with ESPN's Anthony Slater published on Wednesday, the Warriors star laid out his priorities.
"I don't want there to be no drama," Curry said. "No talking points. This team should be competitive and go win."
Curry, 38, has one year left at $62.6 million on his current deal.
The 12-time all-star and two-time NBA MVP became eligible for an extension of up to two years and $136.7 million in late August.
The Warriors, Slater reported, offered a several options, including maximum money or deals offering the team more financial flexibility.
"It's going to happen at the right time, once I have all the information I need to make the decision that is right," Curry said. "The team's been great having that conversation back and forth. If I don't sign, it won't affect me in terms of my play or carrying that weight. But I'll make the decision when I'm ready."
Curry said his "obvious goal" is to play his entire career with the Warriors.
A knee injury limited Curry to 43 games last season, but he still was very productive, averaging 26.6 points when he was on the floor.
"The idea of getting back to work is exciting," Curry said. "I feel like I've taken advantage of the off-season. I feel like there's no hesitation about where I'm at physically going in. ... But I'm excited about getting back to work."
