Fans will have to wait for the debut of this year's No. 1 overall pick.
Rookie AJ Dybantsa has been ruled out for the Washington Wizards' season opener against the visiting Milwaukee Bucks on Wednesday night due to an ankle injury, per head coach Brian Keefe.
The Wizards bench boss added that the forward is considered day-to-day.
Dybantsa, 19, was taken first overall in the promising 2026 NBA draft out of BYU — making him the franchise's seventh No. 1 pick all-time and first since John Wall in 2010.
He made four appearances in the pre-season, averaging 12.8 points 3.8 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.5 steals and 21.7 minutes on a not-so-efficient 50.8 per cent true shooting.
Dybantsa suffered the injury in Washington's exhibition finale on Friday against the New Orleans Pelicans, twisting his left ankle in the second quarter before exiting.
Although Wizards fans will have to wait for the much-anticipated debut of Dybantsa, there'll be plenty to keep an eye on for the new-look squad, as 10-time all-star Anthony Davis is set to make his debut for Washington on Wednesday, alongside Trae Young and an ascending group of youngsters that include Alex Sarr, Bub Carrington, Tre Johnson and Kyshawn George.
The Wizards enter the season looking to eclipse the 20-win mark for the first time since 2022-23 and snap a five-year playoff drought along the way.
