LeBron James and Anthony Davis are set to make their pre-season debut Wednesday when the Los Angeles Lakers take on the Phoenix Suns.
Fans can watch the game on Sportsnet beginning at 9 p.m. EST.
Lakers coach Frank Vogel made the announcement Tuesday evening during a media conference call and went on to say their minutes will be limited.
“I just want to see them go out and try to get a rhythm,” Vogel told reporters. “Get comfortable with some of their new teammates and try to get their legs under them a little bit. We’ve been trying to intentionally every day monitor the amount of work put on those guys after the shortest off-season in history, and that will be no different with these next two pre-season games.”
James and Davis sat out the team’s first two pre-season games against the rival Los Angeles Clippers.
Lakers training camp opened a mere seven weeks after the team defeated the Miami Heat in October to capture the franchise’s 17th championship.
James and Davis were dominant throughout the playoffs for the Lakers. Davis averaged a team-high 27.7 points per game, while James averaged 27.6 points, 10.8 rebounds and 8.8 assists en route to his fourth career NBA Finals MVP.
The Lakers are heavy betting favourites to repeat as champions in 2021 with James and Davis being the primary reasons why.
