Mavericks’ Porzingis fined $50K for violating NBA rules by visiting club

Dallas Mavericks forward Kristaps Porzingis has been fined $50,000 for violating NBA rules by visiting a club, but will not be forced to quarantine, the league announced Tuesday.

The 25-year-old broke NBA protocols prohibiting players from attending “any bar, club, lounge, or similar establishment, regardless of their vaccination status” amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The league said that it was determined in consultation with medical experts that his attendance at a club on May 23 did not “create risks related to the spread of COVID-19.”

Last weekend, Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James escaped suspension after attending a promotional event for a tequila brand he is an investor in before the team’s play-in tournament game against the Golden State Warriors.

Per The Athletic‘s Shams Charania, the NBA reviews each potential violation on a “case-by-case basis.”

The Mavericks are up 1-0 in their first-round series against the Los Angeles Clippers with Game 2 at 10:30 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
