Washington Wizards star guard Bradley Beal plans to undergo season-ending left wrist surgery.
Beal had been out since Jan. 29 after sustaining the injury against the Memphis Grizzlies.
There’s a chance the 28-year-old, who’s spent his entire 10-year career in Washington, has played his last game with the franchise. He has a $36.4-million player option for next season, which he could decline — making him a free agent. Beal is eligible for a four-year, $180-million contract if he chooses to sign with a new team this summer, or a five-year, $240-million supermax deal if re-signs in Washington.
Prior to the injury, the Wizards were trying to add pieces to “strengthen the cast” around Beal and convince him to stay beyond this season, according to independent NBA insider Marc Stein.
Beal averaged 23.2 points, 6.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds for the 24-29 Wizards this season.
