San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray has been fined $25,000 for kicking a game ball into the spectator stands, the NBA announced Friday.
The incident occurred at the conclusion of the Spurs’ 102-99 loss to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Feb. 24. With time winding down in the fourth quarter of a tie game, Luguentz Dort drilled a corner three-pointer at the buzzer to seal San Antonio’s fate.
While the Thunder celebrated and the stunned Spurs began to make their way back toward the locker room, Murray noticed the ball on the floor and made a beeline for it, kicking it as hard as he could into the stands.
Despite the loss, Murray had an excellent individual game, posting 27 points, nine rebounds and six assists on 60 per cent shooting.
