One of the most decorated defensive backs of the last decade is calling it a career.
Stephon Gilmore announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday via Instagram, sharing video highlights of his career and closed with the message, “The game ends here, but the journey continues.”
"I have had an incredible 13 years in the league," Gilmore wrote, reflecting on the relationships, lessions and pride he carried throughout his career. "I cannot wait to see what this next chapter holds."
Gilmore last suited up during the 2024 season with the Minnesota Vikings, where he recorded 56 combined tackles, nine pass deflections, and one interception in 15 games.
Originally selected 10th overall in the 2012 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills, Gilmore went on to play for six different teams over his career. He enjoyed the most success with the New England Patriots, winning Super Bowl LIII in 2018 and earning Defensive Player of the Year honours in 2019.
Across 13 seasons, Gilmore established himself as one of the most consistent shutdown corners of his era, finishing with 32 career interceptions, five Pro Bowl selections, and two First-Team All-Pro honours.
Along with his time on the Bills (2012-16), Patriots (2017-20), Carolina Panthers (2021), he also played for the Indianapolis Colts (2022), Dallas Cowboys (2023) and Minnesota Vikings (2024).
