An NFL team with a significant Canadian following will now have a Canadian in its ownership group.
Jesse van der Werf of Sherwood Park, Alta. is one of 12 co-owners along with majority owners the Khosla family for the Seattle Seahawks, the team announced.
The Khosla family officially closed its purchase of the reigning Super Bowl champions for $9.612 billion on Thursday.
Van der Werf is the president/CEO of Alberta-based Heavy Metal Equipment & Rentals.
In 2024, the company purchased naming rights for 10 years for the new Civic Centre in Spruce Grove, Alta., where Heavy Metal has its headquarters.
The Seahawks are one of seven teams that list Canada as one of their countries in the NFL's Global Markets Program.
The team also has a Canadian fan group called 12 North.
