The San Francisco 49ers were down a Canadian on Thursday.
Quarterback Kurtis Rourke exited the 49ers' pre-season opener against the Tennessee Titans with a rib injury.
Rourke started the contest going 12-for-14 on his throws for 101 yards, and he ran for 14 yards.
The Oakville, ON native was a seventh-round selection of the 49ers in the 2025 NFL Draft. He played college football for Ohio and Indiana, and in 2022 he won the MAC Most Valuable Player and Offensive Player of the Year.
The 25-year-old was also drafted to the CFL, going No. 25 overall to the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Kurtis' older brother, Nathan, is currently the starting quarterback for the BC Lions in the CFL.
Rourke is looking to find himself a spot on the 49ers' active roster after spending his rookie season on the non-football injury list recovering from an ACL injury.
