A player credited with removing Rob Gronkowski from some record books just so happens to be Canadian.
With the 194th overall pick in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on Saturday, the Cincinnati Bengals selected tight end Tanner McLachlan, a native of Lethbridge, Alta.
The 6-foot-5, 244-pound TE had a breakout senior year, hauling in 45 catches for 528 yards and four touchdowns, and in the process, set a school record at Arizona, passing Gronkowski for the most career receptions by a TE with 79. He was an honourable mention in the All-Pac-12 Conference team.
It was a long process for McLachlan to get to the NFL, as he spent his first four years at Southern Utah and dealt with a torn ACL in the process. Following his time in Cedar City, he transferred to Arizona to finish his collegiate career in a Power 5 program, putting up 984 yards and six touchdowns in his two years playing for the Wildcats.
McLachlan was unable to attend the Senior Bowl because of the injury but was able to participate in the NFL Combine. He posted a a 40-yard dash time of 4.61 seconds, McLachlan had a 35-inch vertical and nine-foot nine-inch broad jump while not participating in the bench press, three-cone and short shuttle.
