The Arizona Cardinals have signed Canadian linebacker Jesse Luketa to their active roster, the club announced Tuesday.

The Ottawa native, who played his college football at Penn State, was picked in the seventh round (256th overall) of this year's NFL Draft by the Cardinals.

Luketa started the season on the Cardinals' practice squad.

To make room for Luketa, the Cardinals waived safety Deionte Thompson.

The Ottawa Redblacks own Luketa's CFL rights after picking him in this second round of this year's Canadian draft.

The Cardinals are in Carolina to face the Panthers on Sunday.
