The Los Angeles Chargers will go through first-team reps in camp without their new running back acquisition.
Najee Harris will likely begin training camp on the non-football injury list, Chargers general Manager Joe Hortiz announced on Wednesday.
Harris, 27, has been receiving treatment for an eye injury related to a fireworks incident on July 4.
The Chargers signed Harris to a one-year deal worth up to $9.25 million on March 10, bringing the 242-pound ball-carrier back to his home state of California.
The Pittsburgh Steelers made the former Alabama standout the first running back selected in the 2021 NFL draft, taking him 24th-overall.
He reached at least 1,000 yards and six touchdowns in all four of his seasons with the Steelers, but struggled to escape a running back-by-committee setup with Jaylen Warren.
Harris is expected to lead a running back room which includes 2025 first-rounder Omarion Hampton.
